MREV-P-000070Front Sprocket for KTM Super Duke 990 (2005 - 2012): Heat-treated Chromoly 440 steel for the front sprocket that drives the chain. Select a tooth count, spline profile and chain size that match the bike. When the existing front sprocket teeth are worn, inspect the chain and rear sprocket too.
Front Sprocket for KTM Super Duke 990 (2005 - 2012) mounts on the gearbox output shaft to drive the chain and transfer power to the rear wheel. Select this front sprocket for Super Duke 990 2005–2012 against the actual shaft, particularly for model year 2012.
What is Chromoly 440 steel used for?
The front sprocket uses CNC-machined, heat-treated Chromoly 440 steel. The front sprocket teeth remain in repeated contact with the chain while riding. Steel is used here to prioritize load and wear resistance. If the old teeth are pointed or unevenly worn, fit a front sprocket with the same tooth count to retain familiar riding characteristics. Also inspect chain and rear sprocket wear so all three components work together consistently.
Selecting tooth count for your riding needs
Consider the front tooth count together with the rear sprocket currently fitted. Dividing rear teeth by front teeth gives the final drive ratio. When replacing a front sprocket, retain the tooth count if you are happy with the bike's current riding characteristics. This model is available with 17 teeth.
Checks before installation
Year 2012 appears in both name ranges, so confirm the sprocket using an output-shaft image. Inspect the shaft bore and retaining mechanism of the sprocket removed from the bike. A front view does not show all grooves and raised sections on the shaft-facing side.
