Overview

Front Sprocket for KTM Super Duke 1290 mounts on the gearbox output shaft to drive the chain and transfer power to the rear wheel. For Super Duke 1290, confirm the version and model year before selecting a front sprocket.

What is Chromoly 440 steel used for?

The front sprocket uses CNC-machined, heat-treated Chromoly 440 steel. The front sprocket teeth remain in repeated contact with the chain while riding. Steel is used here to prioritize load and wear resistance. If the old teeth are pointed or unevenly worn, fit a front sprocket with the same tooth count to retain familiar riding characteristics. Also inspect chain and rear sprocket wear so all three components work together consistently.

Selecting tooth count for your riding needs

Consider the front tooth count together with the rear sprocket currently fitted. Dividing rear teeth by front teeth gives the final drive ratio. When replacing a front sprocket, retain the tooth count if you are happy with the bike's current riding characteristics. This model is available with 17 teeth.

Checks before installation

The mounting face, spline profile and shaft offset matter more than weight-reduction hole patterns in the front sprocket. For a worn front sprocket, inspect uneven tooth wear and the chain currently in use. Incorrect chainline on a new sprocket will impair drivetrain operation.
